<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Just kidding, Gryffindor all the way. Except Bellatrix is totally my favorite character from the movies. She's horrid in the books but all la-la-la, skipping around tossing out unforgivable curses in the movies. In the books, it's Hermione 4 </span>lyfe.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Either way, I clearly slept through Professor Sprouts classes because I cannot keep succulents alive. Remember my cool hanging succulent terrariums from LA? Yeah, they aren't doing so great.</div>

I suppose it makes sense. They thrive on low water and lots of light. I have to keep them inside to keep them from being saturated with rain (east coast problems) and I have barely any natural light in my home (condo problems).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I found some succulents that work in my house though. In the basement no less! They will never die.<br />

Ok, you guys. I love radishes now. I hated them up until about two hours ago.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Pro tip for those that hate raw radishes and love baked potatoes. ROAST THEM.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
High heat, like 450, for 10-20 minutes. It varies, so check them.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And you can put anything else in the pan that you like (within reason, folks). I do not recommend whole eggs or uncooked rice or meth, among other bad ideas.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
No-Recipe Recipe</div>
<div>
Rinse the radishes and cut off all but a centimeter of the green top bits.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5yHaKu2omvEY2KwDqo5CQziCv7NKOJF7FDH5nck-9cqcVIN_kAa_xf0g2UkMteTjTna-bZTmPh2-2Fg1SuA4R7Oorm1CrNbSbYf2ZvBtfn06qq2upjjbgGsO_r4jWkrdV-xSqptX0G2A/s1600/IMG_3073.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5yHaKu2omvEY2KwDqo5CQziCv7NKOJF7FDH5nck-9cqcVIN_kAa_xf0g2UkMteTjTna-bZTmPh2-2Fg1SuA4R7Oorm1CrNbSbYf2ZvBtfn06qq2upjjbgGsO_r4jWkrdV-xSqptX0G2A/s1600/IMG_3073.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Cut the radishes in half lengthwise.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOjadP2EMVTPqbhPNxhPST34EWBBWRa4zZ9T0a0g466hFz8GvEISvWgNCERt5f4q1nCM_WQEIO8JBDXS6xM1W0-NpKsYTay_Ccu8QSeQacffITb1SbQbyF4GW6ixAmD96t2I3X9ewn5Dc/s1600/IMG_3074.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOjadP2EMVTPqbhPNxhPST34EWBBWRa4zZ9T0a0g466hFz8GvEISvWgNCERt5f4q1nCM_WQEIO8JBDXS6xM1W0-NpKsYTay_Ccu8QSeQacffITb1SbQbyF4GW6ixAmD96t2I3X9ewn5Dc/s1600/IMG_3074.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Chop up a friend for the radishes. Parsnips, leeks, carrots, onions, apples (??), whatever you have and think might work.</div>
<div>
I chopped up some of the CSA walking onions. I had never heard of those either but they were leek-y in taste but small like scallions.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzQiqOfFoPSBAdWLjMezBxexMSb0GZb4z2_J3QSRtZr7D8Ryn3PWsI1uivkhHEhAc9WnLKVw24i3ak8LWIYCqR7dJV5xwQd_YshJ5NEkYSMqwoQZBVF_wteduuj8pwdtXEvZiJ2cGBhGs/s1600/IMG_3075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzQiqOfFoPSBAdWLjMezBxexMSb0GZb4z2_J3QSRtZr7D8Ryn3PWsI1uivkhHEhAc9WnLKVw24i3ak8LWIYCqR7dJV5xwQd_YshJ5NEkYSMqwoQZBVF_wteduuj8pwdtXEvZiJ2cGBhGs/s1600/IMG_3075.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
These are the bits I used.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1IPfEaNM0HO36sdwkDo_nzBt025xMUd1TcIXuscFpJmlene5dHs_5Oynz45HmcE6RBH4mdyeJaOgo-LWJhOMAMwjZE0iDZDjghb16X9PZUQC9Sp4M6wvK4B-aj9AAYljQJ0lnd2lB8lA/s1600/IMG_3076.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1IPfEaNM0HO36sdwkDo_nzBt025xMUd1TcIXuscFpJmlene5dHs_5Oynz45HmcE6RBH4mdyeJaOgo-LWJhOMAMwjZE0iDZDjghb16X9PZUQC9Sp4M6wvK4B-aj9AAYljQJ0lnd2lB8lA/s1600/IMG_3076.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Put the veggies in a bowl with a drizzle of olive oil and some seasoning. I used pink salt, fresh ground pepper, and dried thyme.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyOpJKG60eDH8V6rnvRtNKL48HCGjQ19umduDjki_hlUH64ASmBUhTprBzjS9BhE29Tx-STqsEgUV7y0qptj5HKO72CB9UAtyXp5S6pxdRfb4m6PPYAR9dXPGje6LZVBmcXIkrqAaC8cE/s1600/IMG_3077.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyOpJKG60eDH8V6rnvRtNKL48HCGjQ19umduDjki_hlUH64ASmBUhTprBzjS9BhE29Tx-STqsEgUV7y0qptj5HKO72CB9UAtyXp5S6pxdRfb4m6PPYAR9dXPGje6LZVBmcXIkrqAaC8cE/s1600/IMG_3077.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Roast in a preheated 450 oven for 10-20 minutes. (Not pictured. These went about 17 minutes but I like things extra done.)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Voila!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUsJHsvgeK5xLLF8kVmo93_vXqvOunIABl4nRAYOLaflZfLNbqPFx8ow4HHxaFkIsoJjoKpyemrTIjOXtSVU6hSY9PBayt1YKyj8CsZMDQePwmgOk657QM_bOrW68bCnFpjvvaEBWVYT0/s1600/IMG_3079.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUsJHsvgeK5xLLF8kVmo93_vXqvOunIABl4nRAYOLaflZfLNbqPFx8ow4HHxaFkIsoJjoKpyemrTIjOXtSVU6hSY9PBayt1YKyj8CsZMDQePwmgOk657QM_bOrW68bCnFpjvvaEBWVYT0/s1600/IMG_3079.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The radishes were really yummy with the onions and seasoning, and very reminiscent of red potatoes. Maybe some chives, bacon, and cheese next time for a low carb loaded potato?</div>

I've loved the idea for a while, but it definitely involves some pre-planning, a trait at which I do not excel. For those of you that don't know, CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and it means you buy a share in some farmer's bounty but you have to pay the farmer way before harvest time. You know, when they need the money to plant things, and fertilize the soil, and buy new boots or something. Now for twenty-five weeks we'll receive a surprise mix of fresh local crops. We picked up the first edition last Thursday. Behold.<br />

<br />
<br />
Our food comes from the Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative (www.lancasterfarmfresh.com). They have a drop off at Sean's church which is our sole reason for choosing this particular CSA. No research required but great recommendations from Sean's peeps.<br />
<br />
I'm excited to play this personal version of Iron Chef (is that the cooking show with the secret ingredients?) for the next several months.<br />
<br />
Fun fact: I've never cooked or even <i>liked</i> radishes before. Probably because my only radish experiences are raw radishes in salads or on tiny fancy sandwiches. My biggest challenge this week will be finding a yummy way to make these into a side dish this week. A little internet research tells me I can roast or braise them, so I'll let you know how that goes.<br />
<br />
The asparagus (SPARGELFEST!) is gone already, grilled and consumed with Monrovia Farm steak last Friday. It was super delicious, but how could asparagus in May suck?<br />
<br />
Anyone want to play CSA-along? Like Iron Chef but less Bobby Flay and everyone wins?<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I sold all the furniture. Well, most of the furniture. The bed is on the floor, and unmade because I am lazy. And also because I work from home at 9:00 each day and today I woke up at 8:50. Clothes are in laundry baskets and bins because Husband has no dresser. I have a dresser because mine is hidden in the closet, so it made the cut. However, I'd like to sell it to get one just slightly bigger to maximize the space. I don't think he would understand my desire to sell an Ikea dresser for like $20 just to go buy another almost identical slightly wider one for $100. It's a matter of inches. <br />
<br />
Or maybe he would. He's a man, after all. #PG13<br />
<br />
And I <u>promised</u> to wait until after the holidays to start putting it all back together. I want to paint becuase it turns out I'm not super into neon green walls. I need new curtains or blinds or something because I left the lights on one night and I now know that my neighbors can totally see into our bedroom. Since I live in a townhouse, the neighbors are like three feet away. Show's over, people. The furniture I sold was absolutely lovely, late 50s, and I totally saw one of the dressers on the cancelled show Vegas. (Pretty sure that's not why it was cancelled.) But the furniture was way too big for the room. As you can see, I haven't sold the nightstands. I love them too much so asked more money for them than for the two dressers. They still won't fit, but I like them enough to save them for years. Unless someone wants to give me $400 for them but they probably don't. I have evidence that nobody does.<br />
<br />
What did Mary Poppins say about promises? (I <em>know</em> what she would say about the state of my bedroom.) Promises are like pie crusts -- easily made, easily broken. Pretty sure that's it, based on the five hundred times I watched that movie as a child. Because, um, I logged onto Joss & Main last week and the PERFECT BED was there for a great price and I bought it. It's being delivered on Wednesday. Whoops. I want to at least <em>paint</em> before it gets here. Did you notice that patch of pastel green on the wall? I bought a tester of what I thought I wanted. But it's too light. So I tacked up some options and am diving in sans-tester. Gonna wake up and paint. Can you guess which one I chose?<br />

<br />
<br />
I kind of love the lines of the back, but that gray vinyl was not doing this chair any favors. So yesterday I decided to recover the poor thing. Wait, that's a lie. I actually decided to recover this chair when I bought it over six years ago for $75 at a flea market with three of it's friends and the wooden table that now poses as additional counterspace in the kitchen (and I would like to keep this sentence going as long as possible). Since then, I've sold two of the chairs, and the fourth is in a basement somewhere. I think. BUT. This little guy was hanging out in my office and in need of a makeover.<br />
<br />
I didn't want errands or money to be involved in this spur-of-the-moment, after work project. Luckily, I have a bin of fabric in the craft closet because <em>doesn't everybody? </em><br />
<em></em><br />
How about this one?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
No. How about this one?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEtIDOU_RD3GCn8lrh_Gq1tvTjo1aiyBhh-vQ-5WBmAkZeN6Uy-qSl4SK_wUShDBeNtiuUFeUvPZ876hHNx-v3Lc9I33Hn-R0i1hUAwi-Mlxz4dYi69YQ7JXhPdJGxBBRNAe2H5IsOKVo/s1600/IMG_3001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEtIDOU_RD3GCn8lrh_Gq1tvTjo1aiyBhh-vQ-5WBmAkZeN6Uy-qSl4SK_wUShDBeNtiuUFeUvPZ876hHNx-v3Lc9I33Hn-R0i1hUAwi-Mlxz4dYi69YQ7JXhPdJGxBBRNAe2H5IsOKVo/s320/IMG_3001.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
No. Wait, maybe. It's <u>reversible</u>! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8heYT3pjPyxtmbgMTuKcBlP9f5dp7a73sAJM_RDwJvlucRI1Bu1tjhRkROVT9W74hnR8cCFfAtfAaGxkd4CZ5Z1wr4rRn51SDmhEiAwivcmLcip2qsX_TDK_lAkwhiJCfL5T7t01ZvMY/s1600/IMG_3002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8heYT3pjPyxtmbgMTuKcBlP9f5dp7a73sAJM_RDwJvlucRI1Bu1tjhRkROVT9W74hnR8cCFfAtfAaGxkd4CZ5Z1wr4rRn51SDmhEiAwivcmLcip2qsX_TDK_lAkwhiJCfL5T7t01ZvMY/s320/IMG_3002.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Perfect.<br />
<br />
<br />
So I set about removing the staples in the gray vinyl. All 52 of them. And surprise! There's another horrid seat cover under that one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwhSAjRKV7ZzDeK9CO3rq-V5tFkDhTKXw77fR7C-MPZpvDV6cfCTzoJEbQtpUGfDurD32u2p2gzuNfhLKmBCDM0kgH6I40cp5W06szqntN7jAkQC8OHsEUocq9NrTRmGTe8EfzdKUM8Gc/s1600/IMG_3004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwhSAjRKV7ZzDeK9CO3rq-V5tFkDhTKXw77fR7C-MPZpvDV6cfCTzoJEbQtpUGfDurD32u2p2gzuNfhLKmBCDM0kgH6I40cp5W06szqntN7jAkQC8OHsEUocq9NrTRmGTe8EfzdKUM8Gc/s320/IMG_3004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga9b96hK_gXa_HsbmC2_kTWe4BuMu-b28Fw3mUU9QOSCiKFaCj9D4NsqRqbJ3Qwrpd5mVdNQvIVIFVhFvAdykL6Sm437Sjr_SGgln64GtPu49QEgyY1nwCMUkrHXH-iXDGwxlDRh0r-Go/s1600/IMG_3003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga9b96hK_gXa_HsbmC2_kTWe4BuMu-b28Fw3mUU9QOSCiKFaCj9D4NsqRqbJ3Qwrpd5mVdNQvIVIFVhFvAdykL6Sm437Sjr_SGgln64GtPu49QEgyY1nwCMUkrHXH-iXDGwxlDRh0r-Go/s320/IMG_3003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ_b1K-q9VXZZ4UfsPVAmXM8yMj3ydH2d22RyyAg5X3kSEgZLu5LgLmWmXeK4G33prvV2SAYPXz6J8zkirk9S6DbkLI_071BK-Oe7tqlXyBitDiXoAnkFH7_g0pQ37sV2umo8AvheNuc4/s1600/IMG_3007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ_b1K-q9VXZZ4UfsPVAmXM8yMj3ydH2d22RyyAg5X3kSEgZLu5LgLmWmXeK4G33prvV2SAYPXz6J8zkirk9S6DbkLI_071BK-Oe7tqlXyBitDiXoAnkFH7_g0pQ37sV2umo8AvheNuc4/s320/IMG_3007.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I then removed 55 more staples to discover, YEP, another awful seat cover under that one. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRCq5UjYNzpPOE3cve_qSjt1s09ZexqTBmBxVSr723apgMRZsQjvXMaNoFERhG6tvb5KFr00sDl37bO984iVq-VnPFVI3a495YnSqUBTGqJBz_TWXTKnMxHhZoZIertD6wXFnTuYVEKBw/s1600/IMG_3009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRCq5UjYNzpPOE3cve_qSjt1s09ZexqTBmBxVSr723apgMRZsQjvXMaNoFERhG6tvb5KFr00sDl37bO984iVq-VnPFVI3a495YnSqUBTGqJBz_TWXTKnMxHhZoZIertD6wXFnTuYVEKBw/s320/IMG_3009.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I suddenly realize I'm dealing with the Russian matryoshka doll of chairs here. I start to get really worried about what is under this layer. And then really excited. What if it's a treasure map! Will Nicholas Cage help me!? Will he even take my call?!?<br />

After 49 more staples, it turned out to be just a nice, clean cushion. I must have sold the one with the map. Those lucky unsuspecting Craigslisters!<br />

The cushion was stapled nicely around the edge and didn't smell bad or anything. Yes, I checked. Since I didn't really go into this project with any upholstery foam lying around, I thought it best to use it as is. My original half-formed plan was to triple up on batting; this was way better. I then just cut some batting and fabric, lay the naked seat upside down on top, and started stapling everything to the bottom of the seat. After a few staples to secure the batting and fabric, I cut away the extra. Then I stapled and stapled and stapled. Staple guns are super fun, by the way. I totally get the staple overkill. I did it myself. <br />

Here you go, step by step.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Rinse the pears.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdKVcL501Bpl-IUpcoVGQBF6aCnXL1Z41I1sgszH4wt8t3ayE64LrJFVYvyi_Vpdm4a505bsRSpJ5fzsT2FSm8PQm4JPV5XsULavLG0xFtPHrUCYsEeMBeR39CyKD0uUNJBHXxWvCUZno/s1600/IMG_2855.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdKVcL501Bpl-IUpcoVGQBF6aCnXL1Z41I1sgszH4wt8t3ayE64LrJFVYvyi_Vpdm4a505bsRSpJ5fzsT2FSm8PQm4JPV5XsULavLG0xFtPHrUCYsEeMBeR39CyKD0uUNJBHXxWvCUZno/s1600/IMG_2855.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Peel the pears.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Meanwhile, boil some water and add however much sugar you are comfortable with. I am not comfortable with lots of sugar so I made a <i>very</i> light simple syrup. You can add more for a heavier syrup and you're still eating whole foods you made yourself so go ahead and feel great about it.</div>

Put on the metal lids, screw on the metal screwy part, and get them in the canning pot. Just like with the <a href="http://somelikeithomemade.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html" target="_blank">applesauce</a>, cover, wait for it to boil, and set timer for twenty minutes. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I blame the wide mouth mason jars. Next year I will try again with regular jars. And this week I will eat a lot of pears.</div>

I make about twenty jars for the year. One for myself and the rest for sweet, adorable children. (Take a hike, mean babies.) It does not actually take an entire day to make twenty jars of applesauce if you are pressed for time. But it does take us an entire day because it turns out the only apples in the world come from an orchard an hour and a half away from my house. Which makes it over two hours away from the in-law's house. So off we trek, party of four (with our respective husbands), to the only possible place on earth to buy apples. I will admit that they are very delicious. But. BUT. There are like twenty thousand farmer's markets that I can think of, just off the top of my head, within a fifteen minute drive from my house.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Nope. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So every year we stop for coffee, drive to the apples, check out the tiny ornamental squash, </div>
<div>

<div>
My goodness, it's already afternoon. Of course we <i>simply must</i> stop for lunch. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Do not misinterpret -- I love Fall Festivities Day every year. And this year is bittersweet because the in-laws are moving to Myrtle Beach soon, so next year will probably not happen quite the same way. I say probably because I already know that they will drive 2.5 hours for apples. Maybe they will drive 10 hours for apples. I cannot say for certain that they will not.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Also, this year they left early and I made the applesauce myself. It seemed a natural progression. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Year One I mostly watched, took notes, and peeled apples.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Year Two I helped.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Year Three I was supervised.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And now Year Four, I was on my own. I documented the process so I could do this again next year. And YOU can too!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Get some apples and some mason jars. I got pears for extra credit but haven't gotten to those yet.</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then you need to peel and cut up one million apples. Pro tip: Fill a large bowl halfway with cold water and a tablespoon or so of vinegar. Add the peeled, cored, cut up apples to this water so they don't turn brown while you peel the other 999,999 apples. Also, make sure you get ALL the peel off of the apples, because the peel contains something called pectin. Which is used to make jelly. And will do weird things to your applesauce. (According to my MIL, anyway. She seems to know what she is talking about.) Of course, this knowledge made me immediately want to skip ahead to making jelly from scratch, but I know I'm not quite ready for that. Maybe next year...</div>

When you have more than you think you need, add them to a pot on the stove on medium heat. No, you do not need to add water. You will want to, at first, but don't do it. The apples will cook down and turn saucy. Stir them a bit.</div>

<div>
Add some sugar if you want. (I did not add sugar this year because I knew baby Vera would be sharing this year's bounty.) Add some cinnamon if you want. (I did add a little cinnamon for flavor.) Add whatever you want. You are the boss of your applesauce. MIL suggests adding a few candy red hots. They turn the applesauce pink/red and give it that sweet, spicy, cinnamon flavor. I need to try this sometime.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
While the applesauce is cooking down, simmer some water in the giant pot, only a few inches. You don't want to put a glass jar full of hot applesauce into a pan of cold water. Also, simmer some mason jar lids (the flat bit, not the spinny bit) in a shallow pan. These need to be very hot when you put them on the jars to get a seal.</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The next bit got intense and I failed to photograph the action, but this is what you do.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Make sure your jars are clean.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Get a cool jar funnel and scoop the applesauce into the mason jars. Fill them to just below the glass thready bit.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Take a butter knife and run along the inside of the jars, careful not to to ding the glass, making sure there are no air bubbles between the sauce and the glass.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Wipe the top lip of the jar with a clean, dry cloth.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Take a heated lid from the simmering pan that should already be on your stove (use tongs) and put it on the jar. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Screw the other metal part on top.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Place it in the big pot. Those metal separators lift up so you can fit in the jars and keep them from touching while you do the actual 'canning' part. It's a tricky puzzle, so figure it out before you get to this step. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When all jars are in the pot, the water should come up to just below the metal tops. If it does not, add some warm water. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Put the top on the giant canning pot and turn up the heat.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Once you hear it start boiling, set a timer for twenty minutes.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Use this time to line a counter that is blocked from any draughts with dish towels (or regular towels). You want to make sure you are not placing a boiling hot glass jar onto a cool surface.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After twenty minutes, turn off the heat and take off the lid. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Use tongs and pot holders and whatever else you need to not burn yourself, and take the jars out of the canning pot and place them on the towels you just laid out. Make sure the jars do not touch each other. Make sure they are not susceptible to draughts of air from a fan, open door, air vent, etc.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Pour a glass of wine, go sit by the fire, and start listening for the satisfying pops that mean the jars have sealed. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The next morning, check to see that all of your jars are properly sealed. You can tell if it is sealed by pressing the metal bit in the center of the jar lid. If it bounces, it did not seal. If it looks like this, it did not seal.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
</div>
<div>
See that little nick on the side there? Yeah, put that one in the refrigerator and eat it soon. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
SIDE NOTE (or actually BOTTOM NOTE because I am pretty much done here): I used a mix of regular and wide mouth jars this year because that is what I had. I have never had problems with the regular jars not sealing, but two of the wide mouth jars did not seal this year. Maybe only use regular ones unless you're making pickles or something. I don't know how to make pickles. Maybe next year....</div>

Until I look at the almond, paint-covered light switch below. That's the big deal here. Points.<br />
<br />
But before I even covered it, I measured (gasp!) and marked the spots for the -- tufting buttons? -- what are they called? And I drilled holes in the MDF before covering. Behold.<br />

And it sat there behind the bed sadly untufted for weeks.<br />
<br />
I had already made the buttons, which was really fun and slightly mind-blowing. I went to the craft store last month with no clue what to buy for tufting buttons. After staring at all the actual buttons I found this kit to make fabric covered buttons. Seriously, guys, I had no idea this technology existed. I brought it home to give it a try and just LOOK how fun and easy it is.<br />

<br />
I finally found a long enough needle to do the tufting. Kind of. Mostly. The longest actual needles I could find in the stores were four inches long. This is something called a Ball Point Bodkin. (A quick Google taught me that bodkins are used for pulling ribbons or elastic or whatever you want I guess through fabric corridors. Fascinating.) I still had to really push it through and then pull out the other side because I clearly made the whole thing too thick.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
LESSON ONE: You do not need heavy MDF. Use plywood.<br />
<br />
LESSON TWO: You do not need 4" padding. Use 2". It will be fine. No. It will be BETTER.<br />
<br />
<br />
For the actual tufting, I turned to the internet. The internet actually had lots of ideas about how to secure the thread to the back of the headboard, because the internet is smart. My favorite plan suggested I tie a washer to a piece of heavy duty thread, send it through the back with my needle (<i>bodkin</i>), grab the button, push the thread back through, pull taut for the tufting effect, and tie the loose end to the washer to keep it tight. Love it! And I had washers so didn't even need to go to the store.<br />

When I finished with them all, there were buttons evenly spaced, but not really tufted. It was difficult to tie the string to the washer after threading the button while simultaneously keeping it pulled tight through that four inch upholstery foam. (Seriously. Don't use that. Use something else.) Still pretty. But I wanted that bounce, y'all.<br />
<br />
I figured out that I could pull the washers a bit and then duct tape them to the MDF board to get a little more tufting action. Voila.<br />

RECAP: This the opposite of the correct way to tuft a headboard. It doesn't need to be so big. I bought this cool french hook clasp thing to hang it on the wall but it is so big that it just sits on the floor. It doesn't need to be so heavy. Regular plywood is much lighter. It might be a little bendy at first but once you staple the batting around the foam, and then add fabric, I'm sure it will steady itself. Don't use four inch think foam. This headboard is super padded, and that's nice and all, but I think it could be just as padded with half the foam, and I would have been able to use a regular upholstery needle. Learn from my mistakes.<br />

We were actually in West Hollywood (or WeHo, which I refuse to say). And we kept crossing Santa Monica Blvd, so OBVIOUSLY that song would get stuck in my head for days. That part was less than awesome (sorry, Ms. Crowe).<br />
<div>
<br /></div>

Had a blast regardless of my brain's attempted musical sabotage. We lucked into the <i>cutest</i> hotel, the Palihotel on Melrose. It had accordion lamps at the bedside, a cute desk with a fun metal chair and an Edison lightbulb lamp (that was impossible to capture on the iphone camera), and a patio full of succulents. It also had a fun blue velvet tufted couch that I apparently forgot to photograph, but it was like all of my favorite things in one room.</div>

<div>
Aside from the LA toursity tapings we attended (Craig Ferguson and Wayne Brady's Let's Make a Deal), we got to know the neighborhood surrounding the hotel. My favorite surprise was a fun flea/antique/handmade market Sunday morning two blocks down Melrose.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
There were so many things there that I loved, including this beauty that just wouldn't fit in the overhead bin for the plane trip home.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg8Kyuc7YCWCWHP5vbidvtDcw9u-ahuG6ocuXA16eHGpfiHgFIb_SRJZ-IBCzWBbGvvwJw8tjNKMn0kagzP3slMgpEhLtBlMXObWr0r2l03C-weWotK0-3r5asdmPIwuDYRI-dsmrBnh8/s1600/IMG_2428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg8Kyuc7YCWCWHP5vbidvtDcw9u-ahuG6ocuXA16eHGpfiHgFIb_SRJZ-IBCzWBbGvvwJw8tjNKMn0kagzP3slMgpEhLtBlMXObWr0r2l03C-weWotK0-3r5asdmPIwuDYRI-dsmrBnh8/s320/IMG_2428.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But I did pick up a few things to bring home, including five gorgeous terrariums. Succulents, of course, because that is clearly how LA rolls. We packed them all nice in bubble wrap, as they are glass and we were scared. Husband and I had different flights, but he was checking bags, so we decided he would bring them on board as his carry on to keep them safe.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The terrariums were pretty much glass spheres with openings on the side, hung from twine, with succulents planted in a bit of soil covered with pretty rocks and moss. The two smallest just had air plants sitting on top of colored sand with some colorful moss. Husband didn't break a single one on the trip home, but he did turn the bag sideways to fit it under the seat in front of him. Remember I said they were spheres? Filled with dirt and sand and rocks? Know what happens to tiny things when you turn them sideways inside round things? Yep. I REALLY wish I had taken a picture of them when we bought them.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am kind of surprised they weren't worse:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I found them on etsy and realized that these are usually sent through the mail as build-your-own terrariums so I tried my best to put them back together again.<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I hung them in the kitchen, and they make me very happy in the mornings. They look best when the sun streams through the window at about 8:15 - 8:25am. I never can work buttons that early so you'll have to use your imagination.<br />

<br />
I got a lazy at the end and also realized I needed to do things like pack and vacuum before the house sitters (brother and SIL, I'm not fancy) come this weekend, so the room isn't finished. I DID manage to upholster a giant peice of MDF for a headboard. It is currently in position but just leaning against the wall.<br />

<br />
I fully intend to tuft it and hang it on the wall. I even made the buttons.<br />

<br />
Unfortunately, the longest needle I have isn't long enough. (I think I made the headboard extra padded, which I am ok with.) And tonight I pack because tomorrow I leave so a trip to the fabric store is not near future.<br />
<br />
HOWEVER. I still dig the whole Style Cure because it got all the <u>crap</u> out of the room, and it got me thinking about design and function in that space. One month just isn't long enough. Something about <i>the headboard on your dining room table is there because you are a slacker, </i>right?<br />
<br />
I have been trying to follow the <a href="http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/apartment-therapys-style-cure-192429" target="_blank">Apartment Therapy Style Cure</a> all month, but I got lost somewhere. Also, there is a lot of sitting and thinking at the beginning of the month, which is easy. And a lot of hurrying to get everything in place at the end of the month, which is time consuming.<br />
<br />
And now there is a headboard on my dining room table.<br />

How about instead I make broccoli salad for the fantasy football draft I am attending tomorrow night? This broccoli salad tastes best after chilling for 24 hours, so I always try to make this the day before. Hre's how you do it, for a crowd. Make broccoli salad, I mean.</div>

First, like all good recipes, cook some bacon. Since this bacon is to be crumbled anyway, I chop it first. </div>

<br />
Half a cup of reduced fat mayo. But don't be cray and think that's all the mayo that's going in this concoction. It's two cups, a half at a time for mixing purposes. And put a bunch of the onions in. And about two capfuls of vinegar. I used apple cider but I don't really care what kind you use. Also, add fresh ground pepper each time you add the mayo. I took that picture before I added the pepper. Pretend there is pepper in there.<br />

Add 8 oz of cheese because cheese. Add a bunch of the crumbled bacon. You crumbled that, right?<br />

Looking delish.<br />
<br />
Rinse and repeat the mayo/splenda/pepper/capful of vinegar dance until you've done this four times total with a half cup mayo each time. And make sure the rest of the onions and bacon gets in there. (STOP EATING THE BACON. PUT IT IN THE BOWL.)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Stir, stir, stir. I usually need to separate it and stir in another bowl.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
This yummy (not at all healthy) broccoli salad is my go-to <em>'please bring a side'-</em>side. If I like the people I am visting, anyway. If I don't, I'm probably just going to buy some macaroni salad at Harris Teeter on the way to the loser's party. And then I'll leave early.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div>
*I don't possess the skills to cook for less than ten people. Since my husband and I live alone most of the year, we usually have leftovers.<br />
<br />
**My husband who reads cookbooks for fun and reads recipes ALL THE WAY THROUGH suggested I mix the Splenda and vinegar and mayo together first, in a seperate bowl. This sounds smart. I think you should try it.</div>

Apartment Therapy Style Cure Day 14: Go with the Flow<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Apartment Therapy has a lovely lesson on 'room flow' <a href="http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/day-14-go-with-the-flow-apartment-therapys-style-cure-193722" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's a nice read, but I didn't think it applied in a room as small as the guest bedroom. But then I thought about the other possible configurations. I didn't like the bed in the corner because it slightly blocked the window. However, while thinking of water running through the room, or 'chi', or energy, or the universal vibes, man....what was I saying? Oh yeah, I realized that if the bed was in the corner then any couple staying with me would have one person crawling over the other if said person needed to get up in the night. Now, they might be into that sort of thing. Or they might just have to pee. No one likes crawling over others on <i>airplanes</i>, so why would they like it in my fancy new guest room? I don't think they would. So I feel good about my flow, yo.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In the interest of doing <i>something, </i>I changed the almond colored outlets to white. Except for the spinny thing that controls the fan -- gotta find a white knob that fits.</div>
<div>

I also learned that I only have four outlets in this room. And one is right by the doorway so only makes sense for the vacuum cleaner. Maybe I need a neon sign or something on that wall.</div>

I ALSO accidentally did this while my DVR was meant to be recording 'So You Think You Can Dance'. Luckily that show is super padded with crabcake filler, but I did miss Fik-shun's dance. Which I was not happy about. #teamjasmine</div>

<br />
Oh, come on, AT, it's Monday. Monday. Seriously.<br />
<br />
My main project is to redo the dresser, and I don't feel like sanding today. Instead, I stared at the room for awhile and realized the brass headboard may not work. I rummaged around in the fabric bin and found some old Ikea fabric that has been chilling there for over a year. I draped it over the brass headboard and realized that YEP I now have two projects. I have to make a new headboard. So this counts as starting, right?<br />

<br />
I didn't go shopping this weekend. The room is coming along but I REALLY needed to catch up on True Blood since the finale is today. So I did.<br />
<br />
But the universe had other ideas because my Joss & Main rug arrived. You know, the one I bought prematurely when I thought I was redo-ing the master bedroom.<br />
<br />
This was my first time ordering from Joss & Main and I am super happy. I bought <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Area-Rectangle-Contemporary-Cascade-Color/dp/B00CA89RBI/ref=sr_1_33?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1376865794&sr=1-33&keywords=loloi+rugs" target="_blank">this</a> one, at $198 WITH SHIPPING. Way less than I've seen on any other site on the interwebz. And it's lovely; I'm super pleased with Joss & Main and Loloi Rugs and the Universe. Of course, it's too small for the master bedroom. But it's going to probably look great in the new guest room. And I also shopped in my house and found a shower curtain from World Market that I bought for the office curtains. I actually thought I would need two, but ended up using only one in the office window.<br />
<br />
So now I have a new 'pairing'. Thanks to Apartment Therapy, I've been thinking way to much about decor pairs. And regular pears. But that's how my brain works.<br />
<br />
It's coming along nicely.<br />

<br />
Today is a freebie day. I get the point of inviting people over; it makes the deadline real. And helps with the finishing. I know that whenever I want Husband's help cleaning the house, I just invite his friends over. Works LIKE A FREAKING CHARM every single time.<br />
<br />
This Labor Day weekend, I'll be joining him in LA for business (him) and pleasure (me). But the deadline is still in full effect because we will have amazing house sitters that will be using this guest room. So it's gotta be ready for them.<br />
<br />
Different method, same effect.<br />

<div>
Hm. This feels like a freebie day though I know it's important. </div>
<div>

<div>
<u>Shopping List</u></div>
<div>
knobs - what kind what color omg i don't know yet</div>
<div>
black out blinds</div>
<div>
new comforter/blanket/bedspread</div>
<div>
side table</div>
<div>
probably some accessories, but not yet sure what</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Budget: Ok, I realize $0.00 is unreasonable. I'm giving it $200. So far I've spent $8.99 on 3M strips for the board games. $191.01 left. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I like<a href="http://www.target.com/p/room-essentials-wire-accent-table/-/A-14602407" target="_blank"> this</a> table from Target. I like that its under $20 and smallish and wiry so won't take up a lot of visual space. And it will fit nicely between the bed and the mirrored closet. And it has hot pink, but not so much as to be annoying. And the white top should compliment the white sides and legs of our Ikea Lack Hack.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's not at my local Target (checked today) and it's on back order. Ugh. But I'll order it anyway and just pretend it's there for now. I hate waiting. Anyone else? Everyone else? Yeah, that's what I thought.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
While that <i>technically</i> leaves enough in the budget for the $18 <a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/home-hardware/28057438.jsp?color=046" target="_blank">Anthopologie knobs</a>, I still say they cost too much. Plus I need a new blanket/whatever for the bed and some blinds. But they did give me a 15% off coupon for my birthday month coming up. What's 15% off of a million dollars?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have an unopened bathroom shelf from Lowe's that I never hung because I am lazy and also I bought these adorable deer.</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
(From Anthropologie. Full price at something like $20-$25 each!! So I didn't want anything to compete with them.) I need to return the shelf. I can get credit for the blinds. MAYBE I CAN HAVE MY RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED KNOBS. But I hate rewarding bad behavior. (Bad behavior = Anthropologie's pricing practices.) </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Look at me trying to justify buying million dollar knobs. Anyone else do this? </div>

AT Style Cure Day 9: Research your decor pairing<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am trying to decide if the super neat-o vintage game boards can coexist with the walls in the bright blue summer sky bedroom. I can think of only one way to research this: Old Skool Scientific Method-Style. Finally using those seventh grade science fair skillz. (Honorable mention, yo.)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Question: Will any of the eighteen vintage game boards work as decor in the pretty new guest room?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Research: I held each game board up to the wall. Anything clashing with the current wall color, or anything with <i>too much</i> blue, was eliminated. I laid the remaining game boards out in different configurations on the bed, sipped green tea, and <strike>looked at</strike> researched them.</div>

Experiment: My control is the wall color. My variables are the game boards. But I only have enough 3M strips to hang six game boards. I better get this right on the first try.</div>

Conclusion: You tell me (please). I've never been a judge for my own science project.</div>

<br />
AT Style Cure Day 8: Choose your paint color & think about a decor pairing<br />
<br />
I chose the wall color four years ago and I'm sticking to it. I will, however, paint the dresser and change out the knobs. The dresser will be white due to the bright blue paint's non-compete clause, and the knobs are currently TBD. I found some really great ones at Anthropologie that were like geodes turned knobs, but at $18 a pop for nine knobs...what's that? Like a million dollars or something? No way. I'll keep looking.<br />
<br />
Apartment Therapy describes a decor pairing <a href="http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/day-8-choose-your-paint-color-think-about-a-decor-pairing-apartment-therapys-style-cure-193334" target="_blank">here</a>. The gist is to think about what is lacking in the room. My room lacks art. It also lacks a crib which I really wanted to add, but that I've now realized will not fit. I can fit a pack-n-play in the newly cleaned out closet for a visiting Vera and -- breaking news -- my next little niece or nephew that is currently cooking in my little sister!! So, back to art.<br />
<br />
I just removed all color and pattern from the room and it is much calmer now. Like a bright summer sky with a little ray of headboard sunshine. I'm kind of scared to add it back now. Perhaps I should hang blank canvases on the wall in a sort of High Art Installation. A postmodern commentary on the thoughtfulness of decor.<br />
<br />
But that would be stupid.<br />
<br />
I kind of like this giant picture from Ikea. Nice and muted and would take up most of one wall.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4OdiB8Ka6rAcCli3br3MYlvJw_mFlKUF3gWiFfiLJ6ddjMCWAUiolweQmXPknQPpl5nlDpp5iHC9S-ISaXo36KV6syGGXfqhpBRLIlS__qwV5315K6EcvAiaZP0JQ3WHj94DdXx1L7SY/s1600/blogfodderapril2011+001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4OdiB8Ka6rAcCli3br3MYlvJw_mFlKUF3gWiFfiLJ6ddjMCWAUiolweQmXPknQPpl5nlDpp5iHC9S-ISaXo36KV6syGGXfqhpBRLIlS__qwV5315K6EcvAiaZP0JQ3WHj94DdXx1L7SY/s320/blogfodderapril2011+001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
But it's $149 and I'm trying to keep this project as close to $0.00 as I can. I already bought that rug for almost $200 back when I intended to Style Cure the master bedroom so there isn't much left in the Home Improvement portion of my bank account.<br />
<br />
Remember long ago <a href="http://somelikeithomemade.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html" target="_blank">when I mentioned</a> the stacks of vintage games in my mother-in-law's basement? Well, they are currently on a shelf in a closet in my house.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMGKr_zH88kBY1YK3vDAVtEsEV92ykmvuokihIvcCnZjnQ_8Nmac2mdqb51ToGFEQa-nWakU6S2R6bQthyaqLCkn9ecwnAaxciUZJjGb4RBSEwwHP7NrLX5tsw_NOt8KufC7uw9T1i1n4/s1600/IMG_2274.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMGKr_zH88kBY1YK3vDAVtEsEV92ykmvuokihIvcCnZjnQ_8Nmac2mdqb51ToGFEQa-nWakU6S2R6bQthyaqLCkn9ecwnAaxciUZJjGb4RBSEwwHP7NrLX5tsw_NOt8KufC7uw9T1i1n4/s320/IMG_2274.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
How can I sanely pair these awesome game boards with that bright blue wall color? The games themselves are all less fun than Candyland. Spin the spinner and move to red, draw a card and move back two, blah blah that kind of thing. No self respecting kid that has ever heard of Angry Birds wants to play these games. But the game boards themselves are excellent. Plus they are sweetly from Husband's childhood. And plus they are free.<br />

<br />
I have eighteen game boards to choose from so I'm thinking SOME of them should work. Maybe if I go for the non-primary-color based ones...you know, the ones rocking the <strike>awful</strike> awesome 1970s fuchsia-esque palette. What do you think? Can I make fetch happen? Non-framed, just chilling on the wall? I'll get some 3M strips and let you know how it goes.<br />

Bonus Question: for 100 points, can anyone tell me how to add pictures in a grid format instead of one after another? I CANNOT figure it out.<br />

<br />
I even cleaned the window, which was super dingy and had never been completely cleaned in the five years we've lived here. Sure, I wiped down the easy to reach inside bits from time to time (year to year), but this time I cleaned the inside and outside of all four panes. I am way too proud of myself over this. It was really hard, but I only fell out of the window one time. Just kidding, I fell out zero times. But it was super scary leaning out of the window to clean the outsides. And I have regular sized arms so I had to clean half of each outside pane by leaning out the bottom and reaching up and the other half by leaning out the top and reaching down. Has anyone ever done this? Is there an easier way that I am missing? And what is up with that creepy inclination to just <i>jump out the window</i>? Just me?<br />
<br />
I also removed all the crazy patterns from the room, and I am starting to believe that I will not have to paint.*<br />

*Except for the closet which I totally just painted. After sanding and spackling and wishing upon stars four nights in a row, the former mountainous region in the closet was finally smooth enough to paint. Smooth enough for the inside of a closet, anyway. I used the same light blue-grayish color that I painted the living room and basement with because it matches everything. Voila!**<br />
